Basketball Recap: Excel Christian Academy Takes a Loss

Excel Christian Academy was the 59-50 winner over Fort Meade when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Excel Christian Academy Spartans fell 50-43 to the Fort Meade Miners on Friday. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Fort Meade's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Omari Russell led the charge by putting up 17 points along with six boards and six steals. Russell is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Mekhi Berrien, who posted 13 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals.

Excel Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 2-14. As for Fort Meade, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-8.

Excel Christian Academy will look to defend their home court on Friday against Bridge to Independence at 7:00 p.m. As for Fort Meade, they will face off against Pahokee on Wednesday.
