Volleyball Game Preview: Torrey Pines Falcons vs. Newport Harbor Sailors

The Torrey Pines Falcons will face off against the Newport Harbor Sailors at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Torrey Pines heads in on the heels of a playoff game on Saturday. They fell just short of Carlsbad by a score of 3-2. The Falcons' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Despite the defeat, Torrey Pines saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Griffin Dieter had 21 digs and four assists. Dieter is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had ten or more in each of the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Zach Lau, who had 24 assists and seven digs.

Meanwhile, Newport Harbor faced Redondo Union in a battle between two of the state's top teams last Saturday. The Sailors walked away with a 3-1 win over the Sea Hawks. The Sailors haven't had any issues with the Sea Hawks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Newport Harbor had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 18-25, 25-18, 26-24, 25-12.

Newport Harbor pushed their record up to 26-11 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Torrey Pines, their loss dropped their record down to 33-8.
