Basketball Recap: Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest Takes a Loss

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 33rd straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a blow against the Sharyland Rattlers, falling 61-14. While losing is never fun, the Javelinas can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1372nd, while the Rattlers are ranked 583rd).

Leading Sharyland to victory were Mariajose Gomez and Alyssa Ramirez. Gomez posted eight points along with seven steals and six assists, while Ramirez went 6 for 10 en route to 13 points and three steals. Gomez has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alivia Ames, who put up seven points and five boards.

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest's loss dropped their record down to 0-16. As for Sharyland, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-11.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Pioneer the next time they take the court. Sharyland will head out to face Pioneer at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on January 31st.
