Football Recap: Carroll Academy Starts Season with Defeat on the Road

Carroll Academy had to start their season on the road on Friday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They lost 27-7 to the Central Hinds Academy Cougars. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it six in a row.

A big part of Central Hinds Academy's win came down to the chemistry between Jay Shuff and his top target Mason Copeland. Shuff rushed for 130 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 12 carries while Copeland rushed for 150 yards and one score on only 13 carries. Copeland's longest rush was for an impressive 68 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Matthew Fletcher also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.

Looking ahead, Carroll Academy will welcome Manchester Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Central Hinds Academy, they will venture away from home to take on Shaw at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
