Basketball Recap: Citrus Hill Piles Up the Points Against Coachella Valley

A well-balanced attack led Citrus Hill over Coachella Valley in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Hawks blew the Mighty Arabs out of the water with an 81-38 final score. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Hawks had established a 36-point advantage.

Citrus Hill was led to victory by Kason Steward and Nathan Marta. Steward dropped a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Marta shot 4-for-7 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double with 18 points and 12 boards. What's more, Marta posted three steals, the most he's had since back in January. Jaluan Hayden also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Citrus Hill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 28 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Coachella Valley still got an impressive performance from Albert Sauceda, who had 20 points. Rene Rodriguez was another key player, putting up seven points.

Citrus Hill's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Coachella Valley, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Coming up, Citrus Hill and Silverado will face off at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played. As for Coachella Valley, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Yucaipa at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Mighty Arabs' defense better be ready for this one: the Thunderbirds have averaged an impressive 52.7 points per game this season.
