Baseball Game Preview: Richwoods Knights vs. Peoria Notre Dame Irish

The Richwoods Knights will venture away from home to challenge the Peoria Notre Dame Irish at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Monday just wasn't the day for Richwoods' offense. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Normal Community on Monday. The defeat continues a trend for the Knights in their meetings with the Ironmen: they've now lost five in a row.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Peoria Notre Dame). Everything went their way against Danville on Monday as they made off with a 25-0 win. The Irish have beaten the Vikings the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Vikings has come to flipping the script.

Jackson Roe looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one hit in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Peoria Notre Dame got a massive performance out of Joe Culp, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, two RBI, and one double. Culp has become a key player for the Irish: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jackson Campbell, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and five RBI.

Peoria Notre Dame always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .683. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Peoria Notre Dame's victory bumped their record up to 9-10. As for Richwoods, their loss dropped their record down to 12-7.

Richwoods skirted past Peoria Notre Dame 3-2 in their previous meeting on Wednesday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
