Basketball Recap: Southern Wayne Comes Up Short

Southern Wayne was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were beaten by the C.B. Aycock Golden Falcons 79-40. While losing is never fun, the Saints can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 489th, while the Golden Falcons are ranked 181st).

Several Saints players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kairell Evans, who posted 11 points and five boards. Evans is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 55% in the last eight games he's played. Demetrius Elliot was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead C.B. Aycock to victory, but perhaps none more so than Monte' Broadie, who on his way to 19 points and five steals. The dominant performance also gave Broadie a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Jaiden Williams, who en route to 21 points.

Southern Wayne's defeat dropped their record down to 5-18. As for C.B. Aycock, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: C.B. Aycock beat Southern Wayne by a score of 68-51 on Monday.
