Baseball Game Preview: Shrewsbury Colonials vs. Auburn Rockets

The Shrewsbury Colonials are taking a road trip to take on the Auburn Rockets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Shrewsbury's pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so Auburn's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Shrewsbury fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Longmeadow on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 4-1 to the Lancers. The matchup marked the Colonials' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Auburn made sure to put some runs up on the board against Oxford on Monday. The Rockets put the hurt on the Pirates with a sharp 11-0 win. The Rockets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Kyle McLaughlin was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI. Those two triples gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cameron McLaughlin, who went 4-for-5 with one stolen base and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Auburn kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.

Auburn's victory bumped their record up to 17-2. As for Shrewsbury, with the defeat, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-2.
