Baseball Recap: Tabb's Winning Streak Snapped at Six Games

Tabb dropped their record down to 8-5 on Friday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins. They came up short against the New Kent Trojans, falling 8-1. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Tigers couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for New Kent, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-2 record this season. Considering they have won eight matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

For New Kent's part, Robert Matthew Gentry spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up eight Ks. Gentry has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Michael Hetzel and Andrew Staskiel did most of the damage at the plate: Hetzel went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Staskiel went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs. Those two runs gave Staskiel a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Camden Fitchett, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Tabb will square off against rival Grafton at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Tigers 3.4, the Clippers 3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, New Kent is set to face off against their familiar foe Jamestown at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
