Softball Game Preview: Mica Mountain Thunderbolts vs. Valley Christian Trojans

The Mica Mountain Thunderbolts will be taking part in a tournament against the Valley Christian Trojans at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday. Mica Mountain is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.

Mica Mountain took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Cienega, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Mica Mountain came out on top in a nail-biter against Cienega on Tuesday, sneaking past 7-6.

Acelynn-Rose Heston spent all 11 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, Caeli Shellenbarger was a standout: she scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-6. Bibiana Tanori was another key player, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-6.

Shellenbarger wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Mica Mountain kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. Mica Mountain is a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Valley Christian put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their undefeated season alive. They never let Globe get on the board and left with a 13-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Valley Christian got a massive performance out of Kenzie Maret, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Libby Juist, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Mica Mountain's record now sits at 6-4. As for Valley Christian, their record now sits at 8-0-1.
