Basketball Recap: Saturday's Victory Is Leland's Third in Last Four Outings

Drew came into Saturday's match looking for another win against Leland, but Steven Watson wouldn't allow it. The Leland Chargers came out on top against the Drew Dragons by a score of 54-41 on Saturday thanks in part to Watson, who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game.

Another player making a difference was Brent Shimada, who posted five points and five rebounds. Those five rebounds gave him a new career-high.

Despite the loss, Drew still got an impressive performance from Rafa Ledesma, who went 7 of 10 on his way to 20 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ezra Kolsky, who put up eight points and six rebounds.

Leland is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points per game. As for Drew, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-8.

Leland and Hill will round out the year against one another at at 2:30 p.m. on December 30th. Leland is facing Hill at the right time seeing as Hill is stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Drew, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Woodside at 6:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Drew is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.8 points per game this season.
