Fairmont Senior hasn't had much luck against Buckhannon-Upshur recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Polar Bears will face off against the Buccaneers at 6:00 p.m. Fairmont Senior is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
Fairmont Senior came out on top against East Fairmont on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run fourth inning. The Polar Bears put the hurt on the Bees with a sharp 11-2 victory.
Michaela Egidi made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Fairmont Senior let Talia Olivito and Kylo Dodd run wild. Olivito went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run, while Dodd went 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Dodd a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sadie Rundle, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Fairmont Senior kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Buckhannon-Upshur was not the first on the board on Thursday, but they got there more often. They came out on top against Grafton by a score of 8-3. The win continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their matchups with the Bearcats: they've now won five in a row.
Kynnedy Marple made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Marple was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Madi Knabenshue was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Avery Hamer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Buckhannon-Upshur's record now sits at 9-7. As for Fairmont Senior, they now have a winning record of 9-8-1.
Fairmont Senior couldn't quite get it done against Buckhannon-Upshur when the teams last played two weeks ago as they fell 7-3. Can the Polar Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
