Baseball Game Preview: Thornwell Saints vs. Whitmire Wolverines

Thornwell is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Wednesday. They will head out to face off against the Whitmire Wolverines at 6:00 p.m. Thornwell has given up an average of 11.3 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Friday just wasn't the day for Thornwell's offense. They came up short against Abbeville on Friday, falling 17-0. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Saints' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Whitmire and McCormick, and Whitmire kept the tradition alive. Whitmire never let McCormick get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory on Friday. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by six runs or more this season.

Whitmire's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Thornwell, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.

Thornwell might still be hurting after the 17-7 defeat they got from Whitmire when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Thornwell avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
