Baseball Game Preview: Gretna East Griffins vs. Pius X Thunderbolts

The Gretna East Griffins will square off against the Pius X Thunderbolts at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Gretna East will be strutting in after a victory while Pius X will be coming in after a defeat.

On Monday, Gretna East sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over Elkhorn. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Griffins.

Chase Neneman tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Easton Leahy was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one home run. Nolan Green was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Gretna East hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in six consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Pius X didn't have quite enough to beat Lincoln Southeast on Saturday and fell 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Thunderbolts have suffered against the Knights since April 24, 2015.

Pius X saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Mlnarik, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
