Oviedo hasn't had much luck against Lake Howell recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Lions will square off against the Silverhawks at 7:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.
Oviedo is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Wekiva as they made off with a 17-3 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Lions considering their one-run performance the game before.
Maile Dunn made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up three earned runs off only one hit. Dunn was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Avery Madden and Scarlett Griffiths did most of the damage at the plate: Madden went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and one double, while Griffiths went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four runs gave Madden a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ansley DeVos, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one triple.
Oviedo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .586. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Lake Howell waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with 13 straight wins... but they left with 14. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Trojans a 15-0 shutout. The Silverhawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by six runs or more this season.
Like Oviedo, Lake Howell also got a great game from a two-way player: Nisabella Fatzinger-Rodriguez. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Fatzinger-Rodriguez has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Lake Howell let Cate Haggerty and Gianna Terito run wild. Haggerty went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while Terito went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Jordan Hodosko was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Lake Howell's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Oviedo, their record now sits at 4-21.
Oviedo came up short against Lake Howell when the teams last played back in April, falling 5-1. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
