Basketball Recap: Gilpin County Comes Up Short

Gilpin County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 31st straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a blow against the West Grand Mustangs, falling 44-16. The Eagles were down 33-10 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Despite the loss, Gilpin County still got an impressive performance from Ben Bushey, who posted five points and 11 boards.

Even though they lost, Gilpin County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

West Grand's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jalen Geffers led the charge by putting up 11 points.

Gilpin County's loss dropped their record down to 0-11. As for West Grand, their victory ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-12.

Gilpin County has already played their next game, an 86-12 defeat against Heritage Christian on the 23rd. As for West Grand, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 44-42 win against North Park on the 24th.
