Softball Recap: Newburyport Comes Up Short

Newburyport managed to slip by Reading Memorial the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Clippers lost 10-3 to the Rockets on Thursday. The Clippers' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Cassidy Balcome made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Balcome is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Sophie Lavalee also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Newburyport's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Reading Memorial, they pushed their record up to 8-0 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, Newburyport will take on North Reading at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Reading Memorial, they will challenge Woburn Memorial at 10:00 a.m. on Friday.
