League recap: Akiu breaks off league-leading run for Tempe Prep

Tempe Prep's Alex Akiu recorded the longest rushing play in V Section IV this season in his game against Paradise Honors last week. Akiu's team beat Paradise Honors as he sprinted for 78 yards on the play and finished with 131 in all.

Valley Christian was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from third to first in the league. The Trojans beat Chandler Prep 63-0 earlier in the week.

Scottsdale Preparatory Academy's dynamic duo of Nick Smith and Matt Munsil proved to be unstoppable against Northwest Christian, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Smith threw for 371 yards and 3 touchdowns and Munsil had 125 yards receiving. Ben McKeighan helped Scottsdale Preparatory Academy's passing attack out by catching 8 balls for 101 yards.

The Spartans' dynamic duo of Smith and Munsil proved tough for the Crusaders to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.

Cole Lenderink was a key player and the best on defense this week as Scottsdale Christian Academy bested Sequoia. The 6-foot-3 senior.

Getamesay Wiese was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 4 carries, he ran for 176 yards as Tempe Prep lost to Northwest Christian.

Smith put up the best numbers through the air as Will Munsil's team fell to Dave Inness' team.

Munsil was the best receiver in V Section IV this week as the Spartans lost to the Crusaders.

He was 34-58 with 2 interceptions.

Scottsdale Preparatory Academy's Smith and McKeighan have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Smith has thrown for 850 yards this season, while McKeighan, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 21 catches for 411 yards. Braxton Barger from the Titans leads the league in rushing with 353 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Thomas Brittain's team takes on Valley Christian. The Knights are currently in fourth, while Jeff Rutledge's team is in first.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Tempe Prep takes on the Trojans. The Knights have allowed 90 points this season, while Valley Christian has given up 54. Tempe Prep allowed 0 points last week as it defeated Austin J. Nichols' team.

The Trojans took down Chandler Prep 63-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Brandon Haagsma threw for 65 yards and 2 touchdowns during the win.
