Recap: Quaker Valley Quakers vs. Montour Spartans
The Quaker Valley Quakers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. The game between them and Montour wasn't particularly close, with Quaker Valley falling 68-53. While losing is never fun, Quaker Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 275th, while Montour is ranked 16th).
Despite the loss, Quaker Valley still got an impressive performance from Joey Coyle, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Zach Washington, who scored 14 points.
Montour's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jake Wolfe, who scored 19 points along with two steals. Wolfe has been hot recently, having posted 19 or more points the last eight times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ama tening Sow, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds.
Montour's lineup was just a bit different on Friday as James Bundridge got a bit more time on the court (24 vs. his season average of 6.47). Bundridge made the most of the opportunity, scoring seven points along with five rebounds. A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.
Quaker Valley's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-11. As for Montour, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Quaker Valley will square off against Shenango at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Quaker Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Friday. As for Montour, they will head out on the road to face off against Obama Academy of International Studies at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Montour's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last ten contests.
