Basketball Recap: Mountain Island Charter Comes Up Short

Mountain Island Charter lost against Lincoln Charter last Friday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Mountain Island Charter Raptors had to suffer through a 54-27 loss at the hands of the Lincoln Charter Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Raptors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 431st, while the Eagles are ranked 130th).

Despite the defeat, Mountain Island Charter saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kayla Fudge posted eight points.

Lincoln Charter's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Taylor Riggenbach, who went 9-for-19 en route to 20 points and four steals. Symphani Stevens was another key player, putting up 15 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Mountain Island Charter has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-12 record this season. The victory (which was Lincoln Charter's 15th in a row) raised their record to 18-6.

Mountain Island Charter does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Lincoln Charter, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 55-34 win against Christ the King on the 21st.
