Recap: Hillsboro Hiltoppers vs. Gillespie Miners

The Hillsboro Hiltoppers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. They fell just short of Gillespie by a score of 61-59. Hillsboro was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Gillespie apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.

Hillsboro's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amya Greenwood, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Greenwood is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Evans, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.

Hillsboro has not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-15 record this season. As for Gillespie, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hillsboro will face off against Lincolnwood at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Lincolnwood has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Gillespie, Gillespie and South Fork will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 29th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. South Fork will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
