Basketball Recap: Seton Catholic Comes Up Short

Seton Catholic was the 72-66 winner over Florence when they last played one another back in November of 2017, but their luck changed this time around. The Seton Catholic Sentinels fell to the Florence Gophers 57-52. While losing is never fun, the Sentinels can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 125th, while the Gophers are ranked 39th).

When it comes to explaining why Seton Catholic lost on Monday, don't look at Dylan Alvidrez. Despite the final result, he posted eight points in addition to five boards and three blocks. Those three blocks gave Alvidrez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Asthon Ries, who put up seven points and five rebounds.

Logan Stenson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Florence, dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Stenson is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Brody Ramirez, who had 18 points and six boards.

Seton Catholic's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Florence, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 15-0.

Seton Catholic will welcome Valley Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Valley Christian's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Florence, they will head out on the road to take on Show Low at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Florence is facing Show Low at the right time seeing as Show Low is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
