Softball Game Preview: Roosevelt Rough Riders vs. Mitchell Kernels

Roosevelt is 0-4 against Mitchell since May of 2023 but things could change on Thursday. The Rough Riders will challenge the Kernels at 5:30 p.m. Mitchell took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Roosevelt, who comes in off a win.

Roosevelt's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Yankton by a score of 4-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Rough Riders.

The result came thanks to Desiree Hinsch's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 15 Ks. Those 15 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Roosevelt got a big performance out of Abigail Paulsen, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That run marked the first that Paulsen has scored this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylinne DeVries, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Meanwhile, Mitchell came up short against Washington on Tuesday, falling 7-1. The Kernels have struggled against the Warriors recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Mallory Miedema made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Mitchell's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Roosevelt, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.

Roosevelt suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Mitchell in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Rough Riders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
