Recap: Newport Cubs vs. Stayton Eagles
If the Newport Cubs were riding high off their 67-38 takedown of the Sweet Home Huskies last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Newport took a 57-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Stayton. Newport lost against Stayton in their previous head to head back in February of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 65-25 score last time.
Stayton's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ean Dillingham, who scored 13 points. Kaden Holm was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds.
Newport's loss dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Stayton, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newport will square off against Cascade at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Cascade's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Stayton, they will head out on the road to challenge Philomath at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Philomath is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.
