Basketball Preview: Rio Linda Knights vs. Mesa Verde Mavericks
Rio Linda is 3-0 against the Mavericks since January of 2023, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Rio Linda Knights will look to defend their home court against the Mesa Verde Mavericks at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, Rio Linda humbled the Wolves with a 85-36 victory.
Meanwhile, Mesa Verde had to endure an 11-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Sacramento Adventist by a score of 55-43 on Monday. The victory was just what Mesa Verde needed coming off of a 70-41 defeat in their prior game.
Mesa Verde's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mathew Garcia led the charge by dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Garcia also grabbed two+ steals for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Jorgensen, who scored ten points along with eight steals and six rebounds.
Rio Linda has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-16 record this season. As for Mesa Verde, their win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-21.
Everything came up roses for Rio Linda against the Mavericks in their previous matchup back in January as the team secured a 66-34 win. Does Rio Linda have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mavericks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
