Hidden Valley gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the North Bend Bulldogs. This was payback for the Mustangs, who suffered a 6-2 loss the last time these two teams met.
Scarlett Gordon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 13 Ks.
On the hitting side, Mady Knable was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Mendes, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Hidden Valley beat North Bend by a score of 10-5 later that day.
