Softball Game Preview: Half Moon Bay Cougars vs. Burlingame Panthers

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Half Moon Bay Cougars duke it out with Burlingame Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Half Moon Bay is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.1 runs per game this season.

Half Moon Bay took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by an 8-1 margin over Santa Cruz. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Zoey Schwartz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits.

At the plate, Half Moon Bay got a massive performance out of Miranda Sarabia, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave Sarabia a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailey Gunning, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Burlingame was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Carlmont, falling 10-0.

Half Moon Bay now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Burlingame, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

Burlingame's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Half Moon Bay has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Burlingame, though, as they've been averaging 10 hits. Given Half Moon Bay's sizable advantage in that area, Burlingame will need to find a way to close that gap.

Half Moon Bay might still be hurting after the 7-1 loss they got from Burlingame when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Half Moon Bay avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
