Basketball Recap: Tywon Barnes Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Stone

Collins took a 22-point defeat the last time they faced off against Stone, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Tigers skirted past the Tomcats 64-62. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since December 3, 2024.

Collins' win on Tuesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tywon Barnes, who shot 67% from the field on his way to 17 points and eight rebounds. Those eight boards gave Barnes a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cayden Allen, who posted 13 points and five rebounds.

When it comes to explaining why Stone lost, don't look at Cleon Johnson Jr.. Despite the final result, he went 8-for-13 to rack up 18 points along with seven boards and seven steals. Johnson Jr. is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Lathan Posey, who shot 55% from the field en route to 13 points and seven rebounds.

The victory made it two in a row for Collins and bumps their season record up to 2-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points over those games. As for Stone, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.

Collins will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Mendenhall at 7:30 p.m. on December 2. As for Stone, they will head out to challenge Pearl River Central at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
