Menlo-Atherton and Terra Nova are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Bears will venture away from home to square off against the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Menlo-Atherton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
While Menlo-Atherton's victory against South San Francisco wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bears won by a run and slipped past the Warriors 7-6. The win continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won five in a row.
Gracy Nava spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on 12 hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Juliana Pandolfo, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Kylie Cox was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Menlo-Atherton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Terra Nova was able to grind out a solid victory over Santa Clara on Tuesday, taking the game 8-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.
Layla Tassio was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Emma Bailey also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Menlo-Atherton's record is now 11-6. As for Terra Nova, their record now sits at 6-10.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Menlo-Atherton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .340. However, it's not like Terra Nova struggles in that department as they've averaged .347. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Menlo-Atherton was able to grind out a solid win over Terra Nova in their previous matchup back in March, winning 8-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bears since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
