Baseball Game Preview: Heyworth Hornets vs. Midland Timberwolves

The Heyworth Hornets will challenge the Midland Timberwolves at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Heyworth will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.

Heyworth is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They never let Roanoke-Benson/Lowpoint-Washburn get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won 14 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Carter Brooks tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over 6.1 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April.

On the hitting side, Jackson Law was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Maddox Klawitter was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Heyworth was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in six consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Midland was able to grind out a solid win over ROWVA/Williamsfield on Friday, taking the game 3-0. The Timberwolves haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Heyworth pushed their record up to 23-14 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Midland, their win bumped their record up to 13-14-3.
