Basketball Recap: Deer Valley Drops Season-High Score on Westview

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Deer Valley). They breezed by the Westview Knights to the tune of 59-11 on Thursday. Given the Skyhawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 129th, while the Knights are ranked 263rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Deer Valley to victory were Anayiah Bellamy and Samantha Romero. Bellamy posted 14 points, while Romero dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards. Those ten rebounds gave Romero a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lilah Clark, who had eight points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Deer Valley was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Deer Valley moved to 6-9 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Westview, their loss was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 0-10.

Deer Valley will square off against Mountain Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Westview, they and Cactus will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Westview is facing Cactus at the right time seeing as Cactus is stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
