Baseball Recap: East Comes Up Short

East dropped their record down to 3-2 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 9-3 to the Ellet Orangemen. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Dragons of the 12-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.

As for Ellet, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-5. Considering they have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

For Ellet's part, Josh Sims spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on two hits and racked up 13 Ks. Sims has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Keaton McKeel was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Dowling, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

While East had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
