Mattamuskeet hasn't had much luck against Columbia recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Mattamuskeet Lakers will take on the Columbia Wildcats at 1:00 p.m.
Mattamuskeet is headed into Saturday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 15th straight game on Monday. They were beaten by Bear Grass Charter 59-18. While losing is never fun, the Lakers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 593rd, while the Bears are ranked 248th).

Despite the loss, Mattamuskeet had strong showings from Kensley Cox, who posted six points in addition to eight boards and five steals, and JAILA WILLIAMS, who put up seven points along with five rebounds and three steals. What's more, Cox posted two assists, the most she's had since back in November of 2024.
Even though they lost, Mattamuskeet smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Columbia hadn't done well against Cape Hatteras recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Columbia came out on top against Cape Hatteras by a score of 54-46.
Mattamuskeet better keep an eye on Riely Taylor. She was instrumental in Columbia's win, going 6-for-11 to rack up 17 points. Taylor continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
Columbia's record is now 9-10. As for Mattamuskeet, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-17.
Mattamuskeet took a serious blow against Columbia in their previous meeting two weeks ago, falling 45-18. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Columbia's Shetana Spencer, who went 9-for-14 on her way to 19 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Now that Mattamuskeet knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
