Softball Game Preview: Munford Lions vs. Handley Tigers

Munford is 1-9 against Handley since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Munford Lions duke it out with Handley Tigers at 4:30 p.m. Munford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.

Munford's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Talladega with a sharp 15-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lions.

Brooklyn Pressley and Madison Arnold made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Pressley tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Arnold pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. At the plate, Pressley got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI, while Arnold scored three runs.

In other batting news, Addyson Britt was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Bayleigh Durham also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Munford hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four strikeouts batters in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Handley posted their closest win since March 4th on Tuesday. They skirted past Beulah 9-8. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Bobcats: they've now won three in a row.

Munford pushed their record up to 18-3 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Handley, their record now sits at 9-10.

Munford might still be hurting after the 15-0 defeat they got from Handley when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
