Basketball Recap: Grady Coyle's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Union County over Centerville

If Union County was feeling good fresh off their 58-30 takedown of Southwestern last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Union County Patriots took a 60-41 bruising from the Centerville Bulldogs on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 288th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 128th).

Union County's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Grady Coyle, who posted seven points and seven boards. Coyle is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Logan Boone, who put up 12 points.

Landyn Keiser was his usual excellent self, going 7 of 11 en route to 18 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals for Centerville. Ethan Vecera was another key player, putting up four points along with ten assists and four steals.

Union County dropped their record down to 6-9 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Centerville, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-6.

Union County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 53-44 victory against Shenandoah on the 1st. As for Centerville, they have also already played their next match, a 50-43 win against Connersville on the 1st.
