Preview: Spring Mountain Eagles vs. Tonopah Muckers
Spring Mountain is 7-0 against Tonopah since February of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Spring Mountain Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Tonopah Muckers at 3:00 p.m. Spring Mountain will be strutting in after a win while Tonopah will be coming in after a defeat.
Spring Mountain posted their closest victory yet this season on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 57-55 win over Round Mountain. The win made it back-to-back wins for Spring Mountain.
Meanwhile, Tonopah came up short against Lone Pine on Saturday and fell 47-34. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Tonopah came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 108th in Nevada, while Lone Pine is ranked 1003rd in California).
Spring Mountain's victory was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 23.1 points. As for Tonopah, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.
Spring Mountain took their victory against Tonopah in their previous matchup on January 6th by a conclusive 45-25. The rematch might be a little tougher for Spring Mountain since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
