Softball Recap: Civic Memorial Now 5-1 over Last Six Games

Civic Memorial hadn't done well against Highland recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Eagles' pitcher stepped up to hand the Bulldogs a 9-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won seven matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.

Megan Griffith was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bella Thien, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Allison Friedel, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Civic Memorial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Highland only managed three hits.

Civic Memorial has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Highland, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-13.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Civic Memorial is set to face off against their familiar foe Jersey at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Highland will challenge rival Mascoutah at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
