Basketball Game Preview: Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits vs. Compton Tarbabes

Long Beach Poly is 9-1 against Compton since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Jackrabbits will head out on the road to take on the Tarbabes at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Long Beach Poly took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They put the hurt on Woodrow Wilson with a sharp 74-53 win. The Jackrabbits have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten contests by 21 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Compton had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They walked away with an 85-72 victory over the Panthers.

Compton's win came from a few key players that Long Beach Poly will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jaelyn Baker-Nelson, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 12 boards. Those 21 points gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zai Williams, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Long Beach Poly's win bumped their record up to 16-8. As for Compton, their victory bumped their record up to 11-12.

Everything came up roses for Long Beach Poly against Compton when the teams last played on January 9th, as the squad secured a 78-50 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Jackrabbits since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
