Basketball Game Preview: Academe of the Oaks Firebirds vs. Atlanta Area School for the Deaf Panthers

The Academe of the Oaks Firebirds will venture away from home to challenge the Atlanta Area School for the Deaf Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Tuesday, Academe of the Oaks beat Atlanta Jewish Academy 32-24.

Academe of the Oaks found their leader in sophomore Maya Sklare, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Belle Carnes was another key player, putting up four points and ten boards.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Atlanta Area School for the Deaf took on Georgia School for the Deaf back in November. The Panthers put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 44-24 win. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won four in a row.

The win got Academe of the Oaks back to even at 1-1. As for Atlanta Area School for the Deaf, the victory also got them back to even at 1-1.

Academe of the Oaks couldn't quite finish off Atlanta Area School for the Deaf when the teams last played back in November of 2015 and fell 47-44. Can the Firebirds avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
