Baseball Recap: Rhea County Takes a Loss

Rhea County lost against McMinn County back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Golden Eagles fell 5-2 to the Cherokees. The Golden Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Alex Latshaw was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in March.

At the plate, Rhea County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Casen Kinney, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Kinney is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played. Corydon Butler was another, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Rhea County's record now sits at 5-12. As for McMinn County, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-10.

While Rhea County had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
