Basketball Recap: Bryce Howson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Decatur over Tri-Cities

Fans were treated to a Battle of the Bulldogs on Friday. Decatur fell 70-62 to Tri-Cities. While losing is never fun, Decatur can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 85th, while Tri-Cities is ranked 15th).

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bryce Howson, who went 6-for-11 en route to 14 points in addition to five assists and five boards. The dominant performance also gave Howson a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Jason Welborn, who went 5-for-8 on his way to 15 points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Tri-Cities to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jalan Wingfield, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Sean Vandorn was another key player, going 8-for-17 to rack up 19 points and eight boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Decatur and nudges their season record down to 14-10. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points over those games. As for Tri-Cities, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season.

Decatur wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 67-57 victory against Dunwoody on the 11th. As for Tri-Cities, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 66-49 win against Decatur on the 13th.
