Baseball Recap: Coral Gables Triumphs

Coral Gables gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They won by a run and slipped past the Archbishop Carroll Bulldogs 5-4.

Denzel Jk Martinez looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Coral Gables: the team is 2-0-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 3-9 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kevon Caffey, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3. Coral Gables is undefeated when Caffey posts two or more runs, but 2-9-1 otherwise. Frankie Suriel also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Coral Gables' win bumped their record up to 5-9-1. As for Archbishop Carroll, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-8-1 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Coral Gables will face off against Goleman at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Archbishop Carroll, they will challenge Coral Shores at 2:00 p.m. on Monday.
