Basketball Recap: Mia Hiebner's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Heartland over Deshler

Heartland fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Deshler on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Deshler Dragons by a score of 51-48. The Huskies have struggled against the Dragons recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Heartland's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mia Hiebner, who went 5 for 7 on her way to 14 points and six steals. Those six steals gave Hiebner a new career-high. Ariane Sololuze was another key player, going 6 of 9 on her way to 13 points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Heartland was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Heartland's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Deshler, their record is now 2-3.

Heartland wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 66-20 loss against Thayer Central on the 20th. As for Deshler, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 35-21 victory against Franklin on the 20th.
