Softball Game Preview: Carson Cougars vs. A.L. Brown Wonders

The Carson Cougars will venture away from home to face off against the A.L. Brown Wonders at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Carson is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.

On Tuesday, Carson came up short against Central Cabarrus and fell 5-2.

Caylee Snow was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Carson saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Leah Troutman, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, A.L. Brown made easy work of West Cabarrus on Tuesday and carried off a 9-3 win. Considering the Wonders have won five games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

A.L. Brown let Myla McNeely and Marynda Blackwelder run wild. McNeely went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one triple, while Blackwelder scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That home run marked the first that McNeely launched this season. Another player making a difference was Madyson Baker, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

A.L. Brown's victory bumped their record up to 6-3-1. As for Carson, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8.

Carson came out on top in a nail-biter against A.L. Brown in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 8-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
