Softball Recap: Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory Wins Going Away Against El Camino

Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory won the last time they faced El Camino and things went their way on Monday too. The Fightin' Irish put the hurt on the Colts with a sharp 18-2 win. Considering the Fightin' Irish have won five contests by more than 15 runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Arden Walsh made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Nicole Abunda and Sydney Endo did most of the damage at the plate: Abunda went a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI, two runs, and one double, while Endo scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Those five RBI gave Abunda a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madison Barlesi, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .724. They are 5-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory and bumps their season record up to 8-5. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for El Camino, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory will venture away from home to square off against Saint Francis at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Lancers' pitching crew has only allowed 1.6 runs per game this season, so the Fightin' Irish's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for El Camino, they will head out on the road to face off against Mercy at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Colts will need to watch out since the Bears have now posted at least ten runs in their last four matches.
