Softball Recap: Farmington's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Nine

Farmington waltzed into their contest on Thursday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They put the hurt on the Lakeville South Cougars with a sharp 12-3 win. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by seven runs or more this season.

Olivia Peterson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lila Johannsen and Madison Westover did most of the damage at the plate: Johannsen went 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Westover went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave Westover a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lexi Goring, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Farmington's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Lakeville South, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Farmington is set to face off against their familiar foe Prior Lake at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Tigers 1.6, the Lakers 4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Lakeville South will take on rival Lakeville North at 6:15 p.m. on Friday.
