Baseball Recap: Central Academy Cougars vs. Providence Day Chargers

On Wednesday, the Central Academy Cougars suffered a tough 9-3 defeat at the hands of the Providence Day Chargers.

Caleb Ernst made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with a home run.

On Providence Day's side, they got a great performance from Owen Shirey as he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Shirey has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive pitching appearances. Austin Ward came in to relieve Shirey and was airtight, giving up no runs, hits or walks in his one inning pitched.

At the plate, George Couchenour was incredible, going 2-for-2 with three RBI and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Austin Nelson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and a triple.
