Basketball Recap: Hillcrest Gets the Win

Hillcrest had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They slipped by the Summit Academy Bears 39-38 on Monday. This was payback for the Huskies, who suffered a 56-51 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Hillcrest was led to victory by Emily Mandel and Addison Back. Mandel went 5 for 8 on her way to 15 points, while Back posted ten points in addition to seven boards and three steals. That's the most points Mandel has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Dayana Mulamba, who put up four points in addition to ten boards and three blocks.

Summit Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Sierra Johnson, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Sydney Orme, who had 12 points.

Hillcrest's victory bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Summit Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-8.

Hillcrest will square off against Juan Diego Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Summit Academy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 72-20 loss against Draper APA on the 30th.
