Basketball Recap: Santa Fe Trail Comes Up Short

Santa Fe Trail easily dispatched Prairie View last Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Santa Fe Trail Chargers fell just short of the Osawatomie Trojans by a score of 48-46 on Friday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Chargers came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while the Trojans are ranked 143rd).

Leading Osawatomie to victory were Jasper Sallee and Tucker Fennel. Sallee dropped a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards, while Fennel went 8-for-16 en route to 20 points and five rebounds. That makes it six consecutive games in which Sallee has scored at least a third of Osawatomie's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Walker Beets, who posted five points and seven rebounds.

Santa Fe Trail's loss dropped their record down to 15-3. As for Osawatomie, their victory bumped their record up to 10-7.

Coincidentally, Santa Fe Trail and Osawatomie will both be playing Burlington the next time they take the court. Santa Fe Trail will host Burlington at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Osawatomie will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on February 21st.
