Asotin is 2-8 against Chewelah since March of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Panthers will face off against the Cougars at 1:30 p.m. Asotin will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Asotin's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Newport with a sharp 10-0 victory. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by seven runs or more this season.
CODY ELLS was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, COLT KELLEY was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was SAM HALL, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.
Asotin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .407 or higher in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Chewelah gave up the first runs last Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Newport by a score of 4-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.
Luke McGuire spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 17 Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Nolan Jeanneret, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Miles Krausz was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Chewelah's win was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Asotin, their record is now 18-4.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Asotin has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .493. However, it's not like Chewelah struggles in that department as they've averaged .485. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Asotin skirted past Chewelah 11-9 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
